About Rumpke
Rumpke began way back in the 1930s when founder William Rumpke ran a junkyard in Cincinnati. His business grew when he began to recycle metal during World War II. Rumpke opened his first landfill in 1945. With a landfill, the next obvious thing to do would be to develop a trash collection service. And that’s exactly what Rumpke did.
Rumpke Sanitary Landfill became one of the first landfills in the company to recover methane gas and use it as natural gas. This revolutionary operation has grown to include more than 200 gas wells. Gas from trash! That’s amazing!
Their business has grown through the decades. Rumpke Hydraulics was created in 1987. Later that same year they began to offer a portable toilet service as well. Rumpke also offers Haul-It-Away services for extra large pieces.
Now, Rumpke continues to expand, focusing on the recycling effort that began his business in the 1940s. Rumpke’s loveable mascots, Binny and Benita can be seen at local events teaching children about the importance of recycling.
Currently, a fourth generation of the Rumpke family are joining the family business.
