About Pottery Barn
Pottery Barn, the upscale store that sells everything for home décor except pottery. How did it get its start? Well, in 1949 its founder Paul Secon began a business based on barns full of pottery developed by a well-known potter from Alfred, N.Y. This pottery would be the first product that the company sold, and the company would expand to a total of seven stores through 1968 when the two owners sold their shares. The company would be passed to The Gap in 1984 as an upscale furnishing store, its pottery days far behind it.
Today Pottery Barn has a reputation as one of the most respected and coveted producers of home furnishings for upscale customers. It has been referenced in multiple areas of pop culture, from Friends to Seinfeld, and has been a fixture in America culture for so long it even appeared on an episode of The Odd Couple.
