About Air China
Air China was one of six airlines formed in 1988 when the Chinese government split the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Air China’s responsibility was to oversee intercontinental flights and long-haul aircraft routes. In December 2010, Spain awarded Air China the “Plaque for Tourist Merit,” which is its highest tourism industry reward. The airline was the first foreign airline to receive the award. That same year, the company began offering tickets that combined domestic flights and shuttle bus services. In 2011, Air China became the first Chinese airline to offer Wi-Fi internet on board its aircraft.
Air China is primarily based out of Beijing Capital International Airport, operating routes to North America, Australia, Europe, Africa, and South America. A second hub in Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport operates domestic flights. The airline has a frequent flyer program called PhoenixMiles, which rewards travelers of Air China and its affiliated airlines. The company is one of the few airlines that flies to all six continents.
