About El Al

In 1948 a conference was held in Switzerland during a contentious time, and the president of Israel was unable to return home on the plane he left on as it was a military craft. To circumvent this problem, the aircraft was repainted with the name of a civilian airline that didn’t yet exist, the “El Al/Israel National Aviation Company.” After some special fitting to ensure it could make the flight in a single hop, they returned home in this now-civilian craft and promptly established the airline just two months later. Since then this airline has continued to serve the people of Israel with their transport needs with their fleet of 45 aircraft serving 55 destinations.
