About NARS
Francois NARS created 12 lipsticks in 1994. From there, a makeup empire was born. NARS’ makeup style is described as boundary pushing. He says. “Don’t hold back. Be bold. It encourages others to do the same.”
NARS was born in the south of France to Claudette, a clothing designer. NARS went to the Carita Makeup School in Paris and moved to New York in the 1980s. There he worked with fashion photographers and made his name in the fashion world.
The company was sold to Shiseido in 2000, but NARS remains the company’s artistic director.
Known initially as a cruelty-free brand, NARS changed that policy in 2017. One of the requirements for expanding their brand to the Chinese market was to test their product on animals. They decided to pursue this, and the brand is available to the Chinese market today.
