About Oculus

Oculus is now known as Reality Labs, a subsidiary of the Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook Inc. Its store is now the Oculus Quest Pro Store. Palmer Luckey developed this device with the help of $2.4 million in Kickstarter funding. John Carmack of Id Software had been researching Head-Mounted Displays and discovered Luckey’s prototype. This would lead to his developing software for the release of Doom 3 that supported HMD integration. While only a prototype had been released, Facebook would acquire the company in 2014 and move its headquarters to Menlo Park, CA. 6 years later, Facebook would create Facebook Reality Labs preceding its change from Facebook Inc to Meta Platforms. The branding is now Meta Quest. All immersive social platforms involved with the Oculus brand name are now part of the Horizon brand name.
