About Xerox
The Xerox Company has a surprisingly long history, though its focus has always been on film-related technology. In 1906 it was first formed as a manufacturer of photographic equipment and paper and was all unaware when the key to its future was invented in 1938 by one Chester Carlson, a chemist who invented dry toner, and a process by which it could be used for printing. Sadly, it would be almost 20 years before the potential of this technology came together with the right pieces to create the first photocopier. Originally being dubbed “Xerography” for “Dry Writing,” the company name was changed to Xerox, and it soon became synonymous with the photocopying process. With the invention of the Xerox 914 in 1959, Xerox would explode into the marketplace and take the place of prominence in the industry. Today Xerox has broadly diversified its holdings, but its heart remains in the simple Xerox 914, and the mighty change it brought to the way we do business.
