1959 was about to deliver a gift to 1960 that no one in the world could have anticipated, the gift of a clothing line that would change the face of fashion forever more. Created by Don Fisher of California, and he identified an opportunity waiting to be exploited to the benefit of clothing customers. That opportunity was providing a location where shoppers seeking anything out of Levi’s brand would be able to obtain them through a new store he wanted to open known as The Gap. The Gap was named by Doris Fisher, Don’s Wife, and the store was guaranteed to never be out of stock for more than 24 hours, as every morning would see a new delivery of goods.
The name “The Gap” referred to the generation of customers that the store was targeting, specifically the younger generation. The origin of the name came from the term ‘generation gap.’ Gap has grown significantly throughout its time and has seen its share of ups and downs, but through it all, it has remained a leading name in fashion and has never shirked from its responsibility of providing excellent customer service to its customers.
