About MassHealth

2006 saw the passage of a law that reformed health care in Massachusetts to provide medical care and insurance to as many of its residents as possible. This included elements such as free health care for those who made less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. Those employers who had more than ten full-time employees were required to provide medical insurance for their employees. The law was amended three times between 2008 and 2010 to come into balance with the Affordable Care Act.

This plan worked to significant effect, providing complete medical insurance to those people who didn’t have it available. These patients often represented the most vulnerable members of the Massachusetts population. Multiple plans were developed to make sure that every aspect of necessary health care was covered, including the MassHealth Dental plan. The funding for this program involved the creation of the Commonwealth Care Trust Fund, which has been used to fund this program and provide healthcare to thousands of Massachusetts residents.
